After the Half-Life 25th anniversary update, Valve introduced new files for Half Life and it's mods to avoid stretching errors in the GUI backgrounds.
If you make your GUI background using the method I have in my guide, they should scale correctly on any screen, that is, chop off the width edges and not stretch the image.
The images below are the GUI backgrounds in the download, most are the 16:9 aspect ratio you find on 24 - 34 inch monitors but the will go out to ultra-wide formats.
Please install your choice as described in the download readme, the "dod_addons" method is great because if you don't like the content, delete that folder and it's gone.
Green GUI | Black GUI | Tan GUI |
View from the sea - attack (21:9 aspect ratio) | View from Axis bunker - looking out to sea. (16:9 aspect ratio) |
These reworked GUI backgrounds will work from 480 X 600 4:3 aspect ratio up to 4K and also Ultra wide monitors.
The artwork is basic, these were made for a guide to solve a scaling issue for dod ver 1.3.
You can make your own GUI by visiting this page...

These "should" work on windows, Linux or MacOS.
Tested on Windows only.
